GRS INDIA allows users to receive data collected, generated, and delivered by India’s first navigation system. It provides the opportunity for service providers to deliver fresh data It can also benefit a variety of other services, applications, and research programs.
GRS India developed and extended in data coverage to all data centers and Its primary objective is to give users a highly detailed insight in the availability and geographical spread of marine data across the different data centers and institutes across India. We provides an index (metadata base) to individual data sets. Furthermore it provides direct online data access or direct online requests for data access or file downloads.
The GRS India can be queried and entries can be viewed by users. A versatile user interface, combining alphanumeric search criteria with a dynamic mapping tools are available for users to specify their query requirements. The resulting entries, matching the query, are presented in a dynamic map and a browse list. This list allows for sorting on a number of key fields. Additional details per entry can be viewed by clicking on a Show button or by clicking on items on the map.
The viewer includes a full screen presentation of each entry. The names of the organizations involved are listed with hyperlinks, which provide the full address and profile description of the specific organization. A special section of the presentation lists details on the access restrictions of the data set.
Maintenance of file formats
For purposes of standardization and international exchange the standard has been adopted. The XLS format is defined as a dedicated subset of this standard compliant. Apart from that, all datasets collected via the system are provided in the same data file format. This means that the datasets can easily be used in software, which is also available on our website.
If you want data, you put in a request and optionally, a deadline and budget. A provider can then go find that data for you, maybe through scraping a difficult-to-parse website, and then post it online. You then have the option to purchase the tabular data.
The one thing is that the data has to be publicly available somewhere in some form. It seems that in most cases, you’re not paying for the data so much as you are for someone to scrape a site and get the data in a machine-readable format. If data isn’t openly available somewhere through an application, web forms, or whatever, then most likely it’s behind a wall for a reason.
there has to be analysts, programmers, etc. who are able to get the data people want. Now there’s no shortage of people who can do this. It’s more about people who are willing to do this. Looking through some of the data requests that are already up, you’ll see that a lot of them are very specific and aren’t just a matter of scraping one site, but many sites, along with some analytical savvy. Not a lot of people are going to put in that effort unless the price is right. It then goes back to that first thing about what consumers are willing to pay.
